A stopped sink is not the same as a shared backup
Tell the answering business which fixtures are affected and whether using one makes water rise in another. ECUA warns that fats, oils and grease can clog drains and sewer lines. A clearing visit should define the access point, method and limits; recurring symptoms may need inspection. Tell the assessor about any chemical products before a visit.
One slow fixture or several affected drains?
Record the affected sinks, showers and toilets. Tell the assessor if a washing-machine discharge or upstairs fixture causes water to appear elsewhere. Different patterns call for different investigations; a single symptom does not prove the location or material of a blockage.
Avoid adding a chemical complication
Tell the plumber about any cleaner already used, including the product and approximate timing. Do not mix products or keep using a fixture that is overflowing. Keep people away from sewage and avoid contact with affected materials.
What can affect the work sequence?
Accessible cleanouts, blockage location, prior chemical use and whether inspection is needed affect the investigation. A cleared drain and a confirmed underlying condition are different outcomes.
Before calling, distinguish one-fixture symptoms from a shared drainage problem and describe what you observed.
Questions to ask about clogged drains & plumbing backups
- What will clearing establish, and what would justify further inspection?
- Who handles required permits, inspections and authorization for this address?
- Which parts, access or inspection dependencies affect your proposed sequence and charge?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the answering business and actual property. Compare the supplied scopes and exclusions before choosing.
